I love following a specific routine each morning. I believe that it allows you to spend your days having a general idea of what your goals and tasks are so that you can be organized and productive. This leads to greater peace of mind and helps with stress management- a key tool in holistic living.
Why Should I Have a Morning Routine?
A morning routine creates a common sense of structure that your mind, body, and soul can look forward to upon waking, even if the rest of the day does not go according to plan. Structured mornings allow for that essential element of life called me-time.
This is your time to nourish your spirit and feel a sense of peace over the coming day. It creates a centered day and allows you to ground yourself in your circumstances and surroundings.
What if I am Not a Morning Person?
Do not worry! If you are not a morning person, it DOES NOT mean that you cannot become one.
Personally, I did not grow up as a morning person. Instead, I taught myself how to become one by planning out a routine which I would look forward to every time my alarm goes off.
I now wake up excited and energized by the thought of my grounded mornings.
This may not be you now, but it can be you. Maybe you are not remotely a morning person. Like not at all. If you create a structure to follow, I promise you can become one. Or you can establish a wake up routine that begins slightly later in the day!
Motivation does some pretty incredible things to the human mind.
Maybe you do wake up early, but by the time you have to go to work it feels like you are already unable to catch your breath. Mornings should not be like this.
There is a reason that birds sing their beautiful wake-up calls at the light of dawn. Mornings are for peace, even if this means you can only allot 30 minutes to yourself.
How Do I Create a Morning Routine?
Now, there are many different ways that you can go about how you create your morning routine. Today, I am just going to give you 5 simple tips that you can use in creating a one that works for you.
1) Wake up at the same time each day
It’s important to establish consistency in your morning routine. Start by setting an alarm and creating a habit of waking up at the same time each day.
This will help you get in sync with your natural body rhythms, encouraging wakefulness and productivity throughout the day.
2) Carve out some time for movement
Exercise can help kickstart your day by giving you more energy and clarity. Try to incorporate some form of dynamic stretching into your morning routine, or go on a 10 minute sunrise walk. This will also help to get your blood flowing and boost hormones that make you feel happier and energized.

3) Read a few pages out of a book
Reading books should be part of everyone’s morning routine. Many will suggest reading personal development books… but not this girl. Do you know why that is? I cannot stand reading anything but fiction. Non-fiction tends to drain my brain. I usually listen to non-fiction/development related content throughout my chores and work. So, I say read whatever you want. Whether it’s a Charlotte Bronte classic, Tony Robbins Motivator, or a book about the animals of North America, read something that fills you up.
Even just a few pages can provide motivation and inspire you to focus on achievable goals in order to take on the day.
I like reading my Bible (Okay, so I don’t detest all nonfiction) at this point in my routine. Find something that speaks to you, set aside a few minutes every morning, and start reading!
4) Spend 5 minutes journaling about your goals and plans for the day.
Journaling can help you focus on your goals, make sense of the things that need to be accomplished and problem solve challenges. Take five minutes each morning to write down tasks for the day, reflect on challenges or successes from the previous day and even create a goal to stick by throughout the day.

5) Eat breakfast within 1 hour of waking
This is such an important piece to both a successful morning routine and successful day.
Eating a well-balanced breakfast is an amazing way to boost your metabolism and communicate to your body that it is safe and can relax.
